April 10, 2010 marks forty days before my 40th birthday. Why am I counting down??? It’s not my style - so let me set the record straight. I’m not dreading the BIG 4-0 (like one might suspect). I’m not sitting around waiting to turn 40 (like one might wait for vacation to begin, for example). I’m doing what I do best – I’m Embracing my Potential!! (www.embracingpotential.com)
This countdown is intended to really make me mindful of the gift in every day…the PRESENT. I am living in the moment as much as a reformed obsessive planner can. I am finding joy in the present. I am choosing deliberately to celebrate being alive and ALMOST 40. I think 40 will be my best year yet!!
Most of my high school classmates are turning 40 this year, so facebook has been crowded with reminders of how many years it has been since we all teased our hair and slowed danced to Stairway to Heaven at the Youth Centre. All the reminiscing makes me smile because those were good times and there are a lot more to come!!! (Hopefully with better hair, although I still do like that song and the idea of slow dancing to it really excites me!)
Life IS Good. Life is worth living and sharing and CELEBRATING!! I’ll be sharing, over the next 40 days, how I am celebrating. I hope you’ll celebrate right along with me – no matter how young you are!
Day 1 – April 10th
• Announced it to the world (aka Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn and Blog and Website) that today marks 40 days before my 40th birthday.
• Enlisted the help of the kids to clean up the house after 7 days of Easter vacationing sloth.
• Played Dance Dance Revolution 2 and beat the kids mercilessly – “Who needs an old age home now, Sonny?”
• Delivered the kids to their Dad then went back to DDR2 just to hear the announcer say over and over again, “Nobody moves like you!” I know he means it in the best possible way. That was my exercise regime for the day… that, and 3 loads of laundry!
• Finished two proposals for my research job.
• Danced to U2’s Beautiful Day to celebrate that being done!
• Invited a bunch more people to next week’s information session: “Who Needs a Professional Motivator Anyway?” (http://embracingpotential.com/register.php)
• Worked on Power Point (started by my son) for said information session.
• Danced to Bootylicious just because I wanted to!
• Responded to various facebook posts about the upcoming BIG DAY (birthday, that is).
• Cleaned myself up because sneakers and sweats just don’t cut it outside the house (or, at least, outside the neighborhood).
• Shared many, many, many laughs with my pal Lorraine at the Investors Group Comedy Tour, followed by some wine and girl talk. (Dancing postponed for another time.)
• Posted this new blog after being welcomed home by my beautiful cat Cornflake.
Ahh... Life is good indeed. Bring it!
